This spring, ISG endorsed the Rhode Island DSA’s Independent Socialist Brittany Kubicek campaign for the District 5 House seat in Rhode Island. Our members from Providence Rhode Island, Boston, Worcester, Springfield, and South Shore Massachusetts, and Portland Maine, have been helping the campaign’s efforts. In addition to attending the campaign launch event in April, our organization has been joining the Brittany campaign’s canvassing events in working-class neighborhoods throughout the summer, going door to door to talk to voters. ISG members spoke on various panels with RI DSA about building an independent workers’ party over the past two years, including in early 2025 and in August 2026.
The Brittany for RI campaign advocates for a platform which seeks to represent working-class Rhode Islanders’ interests. Platform issues include a statewide rent freeze, high-quality publicly-owned housing accessible to all; improving Rhode Island healthcare by creating a statewide single-payer insurance system free at the point of service, safe staffing levels, and workers’ management of hospitals; and addressing rising energy prices through public takeover of the energy grid. RI DSA’s commitment to “establish a party for workers to preserve the political independence of our class” is a key reason why ISG is actively supporting this campaign.
