Stop the Attacks on Venezuela

Escalate the Fight Against Trump and the Right

U.S. corporations led by the Trump regime are continuing sanctions, theft, and now outright murder against the people of Venezuela. Venezuela’s rich stores of oil (the most in the world), lithium, and gold are too much for the billionaires that run the U.S. government to pass up. Sabotage of Venezuelan oil facilities and threats of direct invasion are using the demonization and sanctions against Venezuela by Biden, Obama, etc. to pave the way for more war and plunder. 

The genocide in Gaza and the direct attacks on Venezuela are examples of both corporate parties, Republicans and Democrats, using over a trillion dollars in military spending to keep U.S. capitalism and imperialism controlling natural resources, exploiting cheap labor, dominating supply chains and markets. All this requires active threats, proxy wars, and direct military invasion in the service of the capitalist class and short-term maximization of profit.   

So far, Trump’s administration has killed at least 82 innocent civilians off the coast of Venezuela. “Operation Southern Spear” has placed 12,000 troops and a dozen warships within striking distance of the country. Trump has openly authorized the CIA to conduct covert operations. A war against Venezuela would also serve, Trump hopes, to divert attention and whip up nationalism to counter his growing unpopularity, and to try and take the anti-Trump and anti-ICE protests off the streets through increased repression.

The Independent Socialist Group (ISG) stands with the Venezuelan working class. We call for: 

• An end to all sanctions against Venezuela.
• An end to military aggression and the killing of innocent civilians off the coast of Venezuela.
• Stop the engineering of a coup and propping up the far right in Venezuela.
• The anti-Trump No King’s protests, the labor movement, and the anti-ICE protests should join together in active solidarity against the attacks on Venezuela.
• Slash U.S. military spending and fully fund social programs like housing, healthcare, and education.
• For international working-class solidarity against the billionaires’ wars.
• Stop the genocide in Gaza. End all military aid to Israel.
• Abolish ICE and stop the deportations. An Injury to One is an Injury to All.
• Organize a workers’ party here in the U.S. that can include building and unifying an anti-war movement as part of ending the rule of the billionaires and the two corporate parties.
• For a socialist world to end all imperialist wars.
